Teen Pleads Guilty to Causing Fatal Wreck

On Thursday, October 13, a teen from Lee’s Summit pleaded guilty to causing a fatal wreck.

Collin J. Carter, aged 19, pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of second degree assault related to a crash on February 1 this year which resulted in the deaths of his friends 18 year old Nathan Giron and Courtney Tanner Rardin, also 18.

The crash happened at Pryor Road and Summit Hills Drive when Carter was driving north at nearly twice the speed limit and lost control of his vehicle while trying to pass in a no-passing zone. He was driving at 80 to 90 mph and when he was trying to pass, he saw oncoming traffic and when he tried to return to his side of the road he over corrected, went back into the southbound lanes and was hit by an oncoming vehicle. His two friends were killed, and the driver of the southbound vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Sentencing is due on December 15.
