Six People from Kansas City Killed in Oklahoma Traffic Crash

Late on Friday, January 8, six people from Kansas City were killed in a northeast Oklahoma traffic crash.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol the accident happened shortly after 11.30 p.m. when a group of Kansas City residents was traveling south on U.S. 69 in Mayes County in a 2015 Honda Odyssey minivan. The driver was 32 year old Basker Jha and according to witnesses he lost control of the vehicle as he was travelling too fast for the conditions due to the road being wet.

The minivan crossed over the median into northbound traffic and collided head on with a tractor-trailer.

The truck driver was uninjured but six of those in the minivan were killed. As well as Jha the driver, 34 year old Agni Pal Singh also lost his life as did Annu Jha, a 31 year old woman. Another female was killed although she has not yet been identified along with two juveniles, a one year old boy and a three year old boy. The sole survivor of the crash was another boy, age unknown, and he was taken to a hospital in Tulsa in a serious condition with injuries to his head and internal injuries as well.

Even though seatbelts were being used by all and the children were all in child seats, two of those who died were ejected and three had to be extricated.
