Towing Companies Busy in Kansas City

At this time of the year in Kansas City, Mo., the wintry weather is causing countless crashes which serve to keep towing companies busy.

However some of the towing companies are not legal and charge very high prices. According to some of the registered companies, there are others who listen to police scanners and rush to the scene of accidents where they offer their services.

However, once the person has agreed to have their vehicle towed, they then charge very high prices.

For example a normal tow which might cost $254 by a company approved by the city, can cost up to $1,200 by one of these illegal companies.

The companies are breaking the law, both Kansas City ordinance and Missouri state law, and they can be ticketed by police.

However, many think that it is up to the police to ensure that the towing company is legal and they do encourage people to be aware of unauthorized towing companies and suggest that people agree upon a fee prior to the tow. The police also assure that in the event that a driver is transported by ambulance or otherwise, they will call for an authorized City tow with a set upon, reasonable rate for the towing of vehicles.
