A recent report examining data at the state level from the Federal Highway Administration and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has shown that the chances of being involved in a fatal traffic accident depend on where you live.
In Missouri, the chances of dying in a car crash are one in 7,984 and the chances of being involved in a fatal traffic accident but not actually dying are one in 3,835. With a population of just over six million and 4.3 million licensed drivers there were just over 1,000 vehicles involved in deadly crashes in Missouri. That means the state is the 19th most dangerous state in the country, with the worst being Montana and the best Washington D.C.
The chances of being killed on the road obviously are not only affected by the quality of the driving but also the type of roads as rural driving has more fatal accidents than urban and the accessibility to hospitals and the quality of the medical care.
